Three things worth knowing before you ring

These are the three questions we are asked most often, and the answers surprise people.

You may not need a referral

For the NDIS, a Home Care Package, or paying privately, you can book straight in. A referral is only needed for the Medicare chronic disease pathway, and that comes from your GP.

How it gets paid for depends on the pathway

On the NDIS, a Home Care Package or a workers compensation claim, your plan manager, provider or insurer pays us directly and there is nothing for you to pay on the day. On a Medicare chronic disease plan you claim a rebate and pay a gap, and we will tell you what that gap is before you book.

It is not a gym membership

An accredited exercise physiologist is a university-qualified allied health clinician. Appointments are one to one, and the exercise is the treatment rather than a workout you are left to do alone.

What it actually is

Exercise as the treatment

An accredited exercise physiologist prescribes movement the way a pharmacist dispenses a medicine: a particular thing, at a particular dose, for a particular condition, adjusted as you respond to it.

That is what separates it from a personal trainer. The people we see are managing diabetes, heart conditions, arthritis, Parkinson's, long-term pain, or the effects of a disability, and the program has to account for all of it.

You do not need to be fit to start, and you do not need to have exercised before. Most people begin with less than they expect.

Accredited

Our accreditation numbers are published

Exercise physiologists are not registered with AHPRA. The accreditation that matters is ESSA, and it is what Medicare, the NDIS and every private health fund check before they will pay. Ours are on the team page, read from each clinician's own record rather than typed out.
